About Her Travel Circle
Her Travel Circle (HTC) is a subscription-based platform built around a simple, powerful idea: solo travel should be safe, meaningful, and affordable for women everywhere.
Members get access to free, hosted stays in homes around the world — offered by other women, for women — with no commissions or middlemen between hosts and guests. The community is backed by peer-reviewed listings, a private members-only chat, and real local guidance from women who know their cities best.
The Challenge
HTC had outgrown Sharetribe's no-code offering. With a daily-active, fast-growing community of women, they needed code-level customization that the no-code product simply can't support — without breaking the live experience for existing members and hosts.
- Move from Sharetribe no-code to the self-hosted Sharetribe version (still Sharetribe, but with full code access)
- Support a unique booking model where stays are completely free between members — not possible out of the box
- Verify member identities to keep the community trusted and safe
- Preserve the active marketplace's data, listings, and member relationships during the migration
Our Sharetribe Solution
We migrated Her Travel Circle from Sharetribe no-code to the self-hosted Sharetribe version — still fully within the Sharetribe ecosystem, but with code-level access so we could build the custom behavior the marketplace needed.
No-Code → Self-Hosted Sharetribe
Moved the marketplace from Sharetribe's no-code dashboard onto the self-hosted Sharetribe template, with all data, users, and listings preserved and a seamless cutover for daily-active members. Same Sharetribe — just unlocked at the code level.
Stripe Identity Verification
Integrated Stripe Identity directly into the Sharetribe codebase to verify every member, ensuring the community stays trusted and protecting women hosts and guests alike — something that wasn't possible on no-code alone.
Zero-Value Bookings
Extended Sharetribe's native booking system with code changes to support zero-value bookings, so members can reserve free hosted stays directly between hosts and guests — no commissions, no transaction fees, just the booking flow. This kind of behavior isn't supported on no-code out of the box.
Zero Downtime Cutover
Planned and executed the migration so the platform stayed live for its global community throughout the move — no maintenance windows, no broken bookings, no interruptions for active users.
The Results
Her Travel Circle now runs on the self-hosted Sharetribe version — still on the platform they trust, but with the code-level flexibility their fast-growing community needs:
- Zero downtime during the move from no-code to self-hosted Sharetribe
- Native Sharetribe booking system extended in code to support free, zero-value stays
- Stripe Identity verification integrated into onboarding for a trusted community
- Foundation in place for future custom features that aren't possible on no-code
